Tuna Melt Sandwich

Instructions

  1. 1

Drain the tuna well and flake it into a medium bowl using a fork.

  2. 2

Finely dice the celery and red onion. Add them to the tuna along with mayonnaise, lemon juice, and dijon mustard.

  3. 3

Mix the tuna salad thoroughly and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

  4. 4

Slice the cheddar cheese thinly, about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. 5

Butter one side of each bread slice. Place two slices butter-side down in a cold skillet.

  6. 6

Divide the tuna mixture evenly between the two bread slices in the pan. Top each with cheese slices.

  7. 7

Place the remaining bread slices on top, butter-side up.

  8. 8

Heat the skillet over medium heat and cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.

  9. 9

Carefully flip each sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden.

  10. 10

Remove from heat, let cool for a minute, then cut diagonally and serve immediately.

Chef's Note

"This upgraded tuna melt transforms a humble pantry staple into something truly crave-worthy. The secret is adding fresh lemon juice and Dijon mustard to brighten the filling, while buttery sourdough and sharp cheddar create the perfect golden crust."
