Hearty Black Bean Burgers
Ingredients
- • 400 g black beans (cooked, drained)
- • 50 g rolled oats
- • 80 g onion (finely diced)
- • 2 cloves garlic
- • 75 g red bell pepper (finely diced)
- • 60 g breadcrumbs
- • 1 item egg
- • 5 g cumin powder
- • 2.5 g smoked paprika
- • 2.5 g chili powder
- • 5 g salt
- • 1 sprinkle black pepper to taste
- • 30 ml olive oil
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, mash about 3/4 of the black beans with a fork, leaving some whole for texture
- 2
Add the oats to a food processor and pulse a few times until coarsely ground
- 3
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the onion, garlic, and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes
- 4
Add the sautéed vegetables to the mashed beans along with the ground oats, breadcrumbs, egg, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper
- 5
Mix everything thoroughly until well combined - the mixture should hold together when pressed
- 6
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick
- 7
Refrigerate the patties for 15 minutes to help them hold together better
- 8
Heat the remaining olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat
- 9
Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through
- 10
Serve on buns with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, avocado, and condiments...
