American Cheeseburger
Ingredients
- • 500 g ground beef (80/20 blend)
- • 5 g salt
- • 2 g black pepper
- • 4 slices cheddar cheese slices
- • 4 item hamburger buns
- • 4 item lettuce leaves
- • 1 large tomato
- • 1 small red onion
- • 8 slices dill pickle slices
- • 60 ml ketchup
- • 30 ml mustard
- • 60 ml mayonnaise
- • 15 ml vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 125g each). Gently form into patties about 3/4 inch thick, making a slight depression in the center of each patty with your thumb.
- 2
Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and pepper. Let them rest at room temperature for 10 minutes.
- 3
Meanwhile, prepare the toppings: slice the tomato into 1/4-inch thick rounds, separate the lettuce leaves, and slice the red onion into thin rings.
- 4
Heat a cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush with vegetable oil.
- 5
Place the patties in the hot pan and cook for 3-4 minutes without pressing down on them. You should see juices pooling on top.
- 6
Flip the burgers and immediately place a cheese slice on each patty. Cook for another 2-3 minutes for medium doneness.
- 7
While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hamburger buns cut-side down in a dry skillet or on the grill for 30 seconds.
- 8
To assemble: spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, add lettuce, the cheese-topped patty, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
- 9
Serve immediately while the cheese is still melted and the patty is hot.

Chef's Note
"This is my go-to burger recipe that never fails to impress – the key is using 80/20 ground beef and not overworking the patties. Serve with crispy fries or onion rings for the ultimate comfort meal that brings everyone to the table."
