Cinnamon Rolls
Instructions
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tablespoon of the granulated sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the remaining granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- 3
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- 5
Meanwhile, prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- 6
Punch down the dough and roll out on a floured surface into a 16x12 inch rectangle.
- 7
Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
- 8
Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.
- 9
Place rolls cut-side up in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- 10
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
- 11
While rolls bake, make the frosting by beating cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until smooth.
- 12
Remove rolls from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.
Chef's Note
"These homemade cinnamon rolls are worth every minute of effort - nothing beats pulling that pan of golden spirals from the oven and watching the cream cheese frosting melt into every swirl. Don't rush the rise time; patience here rewards you with the fluffiest, most tender rolls you've ever tasted."
